Twitter toolkits typically begin with custom emoji concepts attached to a celebratory hashtag that will spark conversations on platform. From there, an entire look and feel is built out (under the Twitter brand umbrella, of course) and is applied to everything from stickers to screens.
We were tasked to create an emoji and toolkit for the hashtag #TakeUpSpace, which represents the black experience and assists in empowering the community. "Taking up space isn’t about being the center of attention, it’s about overcoming imposter syndrome by simply letting our presence be felt. Embrace it."
The Emoji
In order to ensure the desired result for the client, we went through numerous rounds of exploration for the emoji. The images on the left are versions that didn’t make the cut, and the crown on the right is our final product. The Twitter Blackbirds team wanted a crown reminiscent of Basquiat’s Crown.
